Turnberry

This is one of the most dramatic links courses in Scotland. Located in south Ayrshire, there are stunning seaside holes around the turn - all the proceedings on the course are under the watchful eye of the hotel residents on the hill above the course.

This is the scene of many exciting British Open clashes. There was Nicklaus and Watson and most recently the Ailsa Course was the scene of Nick Price's last minute Open Championship victory over Jasper Parnevik. Price holed and incredible putt to eagle on the 17th hole and to require par to finish and seal victory.

The first three holes are relatively easy and lull you into a false sense of security. Thereafter the course earns your respect as its true championship nature emerges before you. A caddy here is essential as some local knowledge will be of great benefit otherwise the subtle nuances of the course will test your handicap.

This is another of Scotland's 5 star golf resorts which has a well deserved international reputation. A luxury hotel with a fabulous Spa but yet it has a homely atmosphere. The Ailsa Course is the one to play to follow in the footsteps of the great golfers of the past and present.

At present, there is much change in progress at Turnberry. With the help of Colin Montgomerie, Turnberry is in the midst of creating a golf academy and also extending and upgrading the Arran Course.

One must be a resident of the hotel in order to play across this magnificent links course.
