17 Gullane #1

Gullane #1

The East Lothian Golf Club first played here in 1854 although golf has been played at Gullane for over 300 years. Gullane Golf Club itself was constituted in 1882.

All three courses are tough links but No.1 is a real test, especially when the wind gets up. This is a links course unlike any other in that it is set out on Gullane Hill. Because of this you get a much wider range of challenging shots to play than on a traditional flat links course. From the 7th tee (Queens Chair) there are panoramic views from the top of the hill all over the course as well as to Edinburgh, the Lammermuir Hills, Fife as well as over the world famous, Muirfield. Gullane No.1 is used as a Final Qualifying course for the British Open when it is being held at Muirfield.

Gullane No.2 is also worth playing particularly as part of a day ticket over both courses. Although slightly shorter than its elder brother is it just as much of a challenge. Its signature holes are the 3rd par 4 straight up the hill and the 17th par 3 which comes straight back down the hill and looks so easy and inviting, beware!

The greens are always fast and there is always a wind. You will have to play well here to avoid the many pot bunkers and the harsh rough - take plenty of golf balls!

Gullane No. 1 has hosted many amateur events

COURSE NO.1 -- 18 holes 6,466 yards. Par 71 (SSS 72). Course record 65.
COURSE NO.2 -- 18 holes 6,244 yards. Par 71 (SSS 70).
COURSE NO.3 -- 18 holes 5,251 yards. Par 68 (SSS 66).
