19 Royal Dornoch

Royal Dornoch

Although this is one of the most northerly courses in Scotland (1 hour north of Inverness in Sutherland), this is one of the most challenging links courses around. It was recently voted 13th best course in the world by Golf Magazine.

Golf in the area dates back to 1616 - this is the third oldest golfing community in Scotland. Home course of Donald Ross (course architect of Pinehurst No.2), Royal Dornoch is a classic links making full use of the natural contours of the land.

Herbert Warren Wind wrote in the New Yorker that, "Royal Dornoch is the most natural course in the world. We, in America, are just starting to appreciate that no golfer has completed his education until he has played and studied Royal Dornoch."
